J is for Jabberwocky #AtoZchallenge

For this year’s A to Z Challenge, I have chosen the theme of dragons as characters. Whether they appear in film, TV, cartoons or literature, these dragons may be the star of the show or just a supporting character.

J is for Jabberwocky the black dragon in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. It has four legs and wings. It has a forked tongue and speaks in a low voice. It can breathe a blast of purple lightning which can obliterate someone.

In Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll, the Jabberwocky appears in a poem in the first chapter. In the 2010 movie, the Jabberwocky is voiced by Christopher Lee and is under the control of the Red Queen. It is defeated when Alice beheads the beast. The creature’s blood is used by the White Queen to transport Alice to London.

The Jabberwocky appeared as a brown dragon in the 1985 film. Here he ahs a horn, long spikes and yellow wings. It appears after Alice reads the poem.

If you missed previous entries:

A is for Aura

B is for Blazey

C is for Canth

D is for Draco

E is for Elliott

F is for Fafnir

G is for Gwythaints

H is for Haku

I is for the Ice Dragon

  1. Liam says:

Terry Gilliam made a film called Jabberwocky in 1977 featuring Lewis Carroll’s beast. It isn’t very good.

  2. Didn’t know any of this. Interesting post.

  3. Dino says:

Burton’s take on Alice In Wonderland is superb.

All the best for the rest of the challenge
