J is for Jake #AtoZChallenge

For this year’s A to Z Challenge, I have chosen the theme of cats as characters. Whether they appear in film, TV, cartoons or literature, these felines may be the star of the show or just a supporting character.

If you are here looking for my typical Monday post on a parenting topic, I will go back to my regular schedule in May. Until then, enjoy the A to Z Challenge…

J is for Jake, the cat from the 1978 movie The Cat from Outer Space.  Jake arrives to Earth in a flying saucer. His name on his planet is Zunar-J-5/9 Doric-4-7 but since Frank, the human Jake befriends, cannot remember it, he calls him Jake.

Jake can speak telepathically and move things with the help of his collar. As part of his cover, he acts like a normal cat as he and Frank work to fix his ship. He is even smitten with an ordinary lady cat, Lucybelle.  But in actuality, Jake is a highly intelligent alien life form.

In case you missed out…

A is for the Aristocats

B is for Binx

C is for Cheshire Cat

D is for DC

E is for Elsa

F is for Felix

G is for Garfield

H is for Heathcliff

I is for Isis

This was among the first movies I saw in a movie theater as a child and I remember loving it although I don’t really remember anything about it. I’m tempted to watch it on Disney+ but I also just kind of want to leave the childhood feeling untouched.
