M is for Marmaduke #AtoZChallenge

For this year’s A to Z Challenge, I have chosen the theme of comic strips. For those young ones out there, a comic strip is a few drawn panels telling a story which appears in the newspaper. The first daily comic strip began in 1907, but the color comics (Sunday funnies) actually began back in 1894.

If you are here looking for my typical Wednesday quote, I will go back to my regular schedule in May. Until then, enjoy the A to Z Challenge…

M is for Marmaduke. This comic strip about a great Dane and his human family was created by Brad Anderson in 1954. Brad illustrated the strip until his death in 2015 at the age of 91. His son Paul began helping illustrate the strip in 2004 and took over upon his father’s death. Brad said he drew inspiration from Laurel and Hardy routines.

The lovable Marmaduke lives with the Winslow family, who, try as they might, can’t get him to obey. A live action/CGI movie came out in 2010.
