A is for Archie #AtoZChallenge

For this year’s A to Z Challenge, I have chosen the theme of comic strips. For those young ones out there, a comic strip is a few drawn panels telling a story which appears in the newspaper. The first daily comic strip began in 1907, but the color comics (Sunday funnies) actually began back in 1894.

If you are here looking for my typical Wednesday post of a quote and today’s recipe of the month, I will go back to my regular schedule in May. Until then, enjoy the A to Z Challenge…

A is for Archie, a long running comic strip based on the Archie comic books. The comic strip began in 1946 and follows the adventures of teenage Archie Andrews and his pals. Bob Montana drew the first Archie comic book in 1942. He drew both the comic strip and book until his death in 1975 when Dan DeCarlo took over the strip.

The comic strip has run in 700 newspapers and still runs today as reruns as new comic strips stopped being produced in 2011.

Spin off versions of the Archie story have appeared in cartoons and inspired TV shows such as the Fox TV show Riverdale and the ABC series Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

  1. My dads name was Archie (short for Archibald).

What a great idea for the A to Z! I’m looking forward to seeing what else you come up with for the other letters!

  3. My daughter loves the Betty and Veronica digest. She has been reading it for years. She’s not so much into the new Riverdale TV show. Too much drama. Love your castle header photo!
