H is for Humorless #AtoZChallenge

For this year’s A to Z Challenge, I have chosen the theme of character flaws – something all characters need.

H is for Humorless. This character lacks a sense of humor. Many consider this person dull and boring. They don’t laugh at jokes and take things way too seriously. A smile rarely crosses their face.

This type of person works best alone and can be trusted to follow through on their responsibilities.

An example would be Darry Curtis from The Outsiders. Since his parents’ deaths, he is responsible for his two younger brothers. He doesn’t have time for any fun activities, yet he is reliable, which makes him a good caretaker but makes it difficult to connect with his brothers, adding tension to the story.

  1. Duncan Horne says:

It’s often the flaws in a character that really draw us to them. Nice topic for your challenge!

  2. Alternatively, the character themselves could be humorless, but the narrative could be hilarious as a result. All the feels with “The Outsiders” oof.
