R is for Ramble On #AtoZChallenge

For this year’s A to Z Challenge, I have chosen the theme of songs about magic. (Fitting for a fantasy author.)

R is for “Ramble On” by the English rock band Led Zeppelin. It appeared on their 1969 album, Led Zeppelin II. It was co-written by guitarist Jimmy Page and singer Robert Plant. While the song was not released as a single, parts of it have been played at Led Zeppelin concerts but the whole song was not played in concert until 2007. Also in 2007, the song peaked at number 66 on Canada’s Billboard Hot Digital Singles chart.

The song’s lyrics were inspired by The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien and mentions both Gollum and Mordor.

How years ago in days of old
When magic filled the air
‘T was in the darkest depths of Mordor
I met a girl so fair
But Gollum, and the evil one
crept up and slipped away with her
