Q is for Queen #AtoZChallenge

For this year’s A to Z Challenge, I have chosen the theme of songs about magic. (Fitting for a fantasy author.) If you are here for my Novel Writing Series, it is on hold for the month and will return May 3rd.

Q is for Queen’s song “A Kind of Magic.” This is the title track off an album by the same name. This 1986 album is also the “unofficial” soundtrack to the movie Highlander (six of the nine songs appear in the movie).

The song was written by the band’s drummer Roger Taylor. He based the song on a phrase from the movie. The main character, Connor McCloud, uses “a kind of magic” to describe his immortality. Other references to the film included in the lyrics include the lines “one prize, one goal,” “no mortal man,” and “there can be only one.”

This song and this album are one of my favorites by Queen.
