C is for Could it be Magic #AtoZChallenge

For this year’s A to Z Challenge, I have chosen the theme of songs about magic. (Fitting for a fantasy author.)

C is for “Could it be Magic” by Barry Manilow. Lyrics to Manilow’s music was provided by Adrienne Anderson. The single was released in 1973 and appears on Barry Manilow’s self-titled album. Before this, in 1971, a version was released by Featherbed, a group of session musicians featuring Barry Manilow. Later the song was remixed and re-released by Manilow in 1975. This version topped the charts at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Just seven months after the re-release, Donna Summer released a disco version of the track and included it on her third studio album, A Love Trilogy. Her version of the song rose to number three on the US Dance charts.

The English boy band, Take That, also released a cover version of Donna Summer’s version in 1992 as part of their debut album. Their version topped the UK Singles Chart at number 3.
