C is for Cruella de Vil #AtoZChallenge

c For the A to Z Challenge, I have chosen the theme of antagonists.

On my normal blogging days, Monday – parenting and Thursday – writing/publishing, I will tie that day’s topic to antagonists but on the other days (Tuesday, Friday and Saturday), I will write about antagonists from movies, TVs or books. On Wednesdays, my Quote of the Week will be from an antagonist that matches the letter of the day. Enjoy.

C is for Cruella de Vil, the antagonist in Dodie Smith’s 1956 novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians. Most people know Cruella de Vil from Disney’s animated film 101 Dalmatians (1961).

cruella_carIn the book, she is a pampered heiress who desires a cloak made from Dalmatian puppies. Her demeanor is much more meek and cool than Disney’s crazed version which is pure evil. She acts purely on impulse and is prone to reckless behavior. Her recognizable half black/half white hair was part of Smith’s original design.

Cruella de Vil ranks as one of Disney’s top villains and one of their most iconic and memorable characters.

Check out my other antagonists from the challenge…

A is for Apocalypse

B is for Bad Boys (parenting)

  1. How marvelous is Cruella?!! She makes wicked fabulous, and I can’t ever get enough!! My mother was actually referred to as Cruella at her work, and she decided to just run with it. She even had a cruella windshield sun blocker for the car. 😉

  2. raesquiggles says:

Glenn Close’s version of Cruella is excellent and that wicked laugh!
