For the A to Z Challenge, I have chosen the theme of characters. On my normal blogging days, Monday – parenting, Wednesday – quotes, and Thursday – writing/publishing, I will focus on characteristics. On the other days (Tuesday, Friday and Saturday), I will write about characters from movies, TVs or books.
Today the letter is D which is for Dana Scully from the science fiction TV show and movies, The X-Files.
Scully, played by Gillian Anderson, is an FBI agent set to debunk the radical, supernatural theories of agent Fox Mulder (played by David Duchovny). Together they investigate unsolved cases labeled “X-files.” Most of these cases involve paranormal or alien elements.
Scully (or perhaps I should call her Dana as this is for the letter D) offered rigid skepticism to Mulder’s wild theories about the cases. Her medical and science background contrasted Mulder wanting to believe that aliens and the supernatural do exist.
Her character, a strong, smart doctor, was believed to have inspired many young women to pursue careers in science, medicine and law enforcement.
The X-files ran for 10 seasons (beginning in 1993) and had two major motion pictures: The X-Files and The X-Files: I want to Believe. It also most recently came back as a six episode revival series in early 2016.
If you missed the other days in the A to Z Challenge:
A is for Alice
B is for Belgarath
C is for Cautious Child
