For the A to Z Challenge, I am sticking with my normal blogging topics – Monday (parenting), Wednesday (Quotes) and Thursday (writing/publishing). But for the rest of the days (Tuesday, Friday and Saturday), I have picked the theme of TV shows.
Today the letter is P which is for Penny from The Big Bang Theory. So yes, this might be cheating a little bit but I couldn’t find a good TV show starting with P and really wanted to do a post on The Big Bang Theory.
For those of you who don’t watch this sitcom, you are missing out. The Big Bang Theory began in the fall of 2007 and is currently on its eight season.
The story centers on two roommates (Sheldon and Leonard) who are both physicists and total smart geeky nerds. Their neighbor is Penny, a waitress and aspiring actress (and later a pharmaceutical rep) who has an on-again, off-again relationship with Leonard.
These three are joined by other cast members – Howard and Raj (fellow scientists who work at California Institue of Technology with Sheldon and Leonard), Bernadette (Howard’s girlfriend/wife who is also a scientist) and Amy (another scientist who later becomes Sheldon’s girlfriend).
The show has a strong science theme and there is even a physicist on staff who makes sure all the language, jokes and even the notations on the white boards are correct. There is a lot of science fiction and fantasy reference in the show which might explain its appeal to me as a fantasy writer.
I love the way the story has developed. The characters have grown over the seasons which is why it continues to be funny. Jim Parsons who plays Sheldon does a phenomenal job. If you haven’t check out The Big Bang Theory, it is never too late. In fact I only started watching it last fall. It didn’t take me long to get caught up!
